Keeping Children Safe
Our Safe Environment Program
“See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.”
Our diocesan policies, ethics and integrity in ministry, are rooted in the Catholic understanding that each individual must be respected and honored. Jesus had a deep, abiding respect for each human being and would not harm or mislead anyone in his or her personal or spiritual life. We, the Church, must do likewise. Volunteers at St. Mary the Virgin Catholic Church who work with minors and vulnerable adults must successfully complete the safe environment approval process in the Diocese of Fort Worth called “Keeping Children and Youth Safe” before he or she may do so. As SMV values safety, we have a gradual process for all parish volunteers regardless of age. This process is mandated and strictly enforced by the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth.
This process includes an initial interview and application, followed by reference and background checks. Each volunteer is also required to participate a safe environment session as well as read and sign the Code of Conduct and Standards of Behavior.
If you have any questions about the safe environment program at SMV, or would like to begin the safe environment process, please contact the Parish Office.
